Spotlight: UK-US Fusion power, battery trains and housing targets slipping out of reach

This week the UK Government pushed to pair big technology bets with big industrial promises: a UK-US fusion energy partnership landed alongside UKAEA's new 2026–2030 fusion roadmap, while also leaning into its reindustrialisation pitch with a £1bn commitment to 29 new British-built battery-electric trains for the North.

‍Scotland became the first UK nation to require environmental impact assessments for large data centres, adding a new planning hurdle for a construction pipeline already worth more than £100bn.

Spotlight on next week:

• Parliament is in recess for party Conference season, which continues with the Liberal Democrat conference in Brighton, starting on Saturday and closing on Tuesday. Luminate will be watching closely and will be reviewing any relevant news for our sectors. Parliament will return on 12th October.
